Synopsis
“Those who leave here die like a fish out of water.” The revolution in Egypt through the population of Bulaq, a very popular neighbourhood very near Tahrir Square, dilapidated and bustling, where the people have been fighting for years against forced evictions, demolitions and moves to the squalid new towns built in the desert. With the revolution, the neighbourhood’s inhabitants finally made their voices heard, even though none of their requests has been answered yet…
Fabio Lucchini - Davide Morandini
Fabio Lucchini, a researcher and freelance documentary maker based in Paris has urban anthropology and the anthropology of Islam as his research topics. He was photography assistant on the documentary Rototom Sunsplash. Bulaq is his directing debut. He is currently developing a web-documentary on various “disputed” neighbourhoods in India, Brazil, Italy and France.

Davide Morandini, a freelance journalist and film maker, he works in Rome and London where he graduated in 2010 from SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies). He has published articles in various Italian and international newspapers. In the early months of the Egyptian spring he worked as a reporter for and Egyptian webzine, then making his directing debut with Bulaq.
