28th AFRICAN, ASIAN AND LATIN AMERICAN
FILM FESTIVAL
“What a Wonderful World”
Milan, 18th – 25th March 2018
The 28th African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival is about to kick off in Milan from 18th to 25th March 2018.
It’s the only film festival in Italy entirely focused on films and cultures of the three continents.
Our prismatic zebra is once again at the center of our official image to symbolize the Festival’s multi-faceted program, this time in a “hi-tech” version with the tagline WWW: What a Wonderful World.
This tagline inspired the title of this year’s roundtable, organized in collaboration with Fondazione Edu and dedicated to innovation and technology issues: WWW! What a Wonderful World! – How new technologies are changing Africa. On 19th March 2018 at Spazio Oberdan we’ll talk about the impact of Internet and new technologies on African society and culture, presenting two interesting startup case studies in the ITC field.
Another special event taking place during the Festival will be the photo exhibition AfricaAfrica, exploring the Now of African design and photography at Palazzo Litta Cultura (15th March – 2nd April 2018), which marks the third collaboration between FCAAAL and Lagos Photo Festival. The exhibition aspires to show the best of contemporary African photography.
More special events will take place at the Festival Center (Casello Ovest di Porta Venezia, 17th – 25th March 2018), a meeting point for the guests and the public who are invited to join our multicultural activities from and about Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Film program
60 films – selected among 600 submissions -, Italian previews and 7 days of showings.
The 28th African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival will officially kick off on Sunday 18th March, 8.30pm, at Auditorium San Fedele in Milan.
The films in competition will be judged by an International Jury of 3 experts, who will assign the Best Film Award from the Windows on the World Competition, and by a Press Jury of 3 Italian journalists who will assign the Best African Short Film Award and the Best Film from the Extr’A Section Award.
The opening film will be the Italian premiere of Une saison en France, the much-anticipated film by an old friend of FCAAAL: the chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun.
We’re also happy to announce that in our competitive sections we’ll have two films that have been recently awarded at the Berlin Film Festival: The Seen and the Unseen by Kamila Andini (Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury) and the short film Imfura by Samuel Ishimwe (Silver Bear Jury Prize).
The films are grouped in 5 sections, 3 competitive and 2 special sections:
1. Windows on the World Competition for Best Feature Film
2. African Short Films Competition
3. Extr’A Competition
4. Flash
5. Everybody’s laughing…
The 28th African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival is also part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, promoted by MiBACT and by the European Union institutions.
