JURY OF THE “WINDOWS ON THE WORLD” FEATURE FILM COMPETITION
Rachid Benhadj – President
He was born in Algiers (Algeria), graduated in architecture and took a diploma in film directing in Paris. In his career spanning more than thirty years, as well as making documentaries and medium-length films for the televisions of different countries, he has written and directed feature films for the cinema receiving numerous awards at international festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Los Angeles, Bombay, Cairo, etc. They include Mirka, an Italian-French-Spanish coproduction featuring in the case Vanessa Redgrave, Gérard Depardieu and Sergio Rubini and Vittorio Storaro as Director of Photography (2000), For bread alone, based on the famous novel by the Moroccan writer Mohamed Choukri (2005), Profumi di Algeri with Monica Guerritore, again with Vittorio Storaroas Director of Photography (2012). Alongside the profession of filmmaker, Benhadj also cultivates a passion for painting. His works are on display in art galleries all over the world.
Massim0 D’Anolfi e Martina Parenti
Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti made “I promessisposi” together in 2007, which was presented at the Festival of Locarno in ‘Ici&Ailleurs’and received an award at the Festival deipopoliin Florence and at the Filmmaker Film Festival in Milan. In 2009 “Grandisperanze” also had its world premiere at the festival of Locarno in ‘Ici&Ailleurs’. In 2011 “Il Castello”, selected for many international festivals (Cinema du réel, Nyon; Hot Docs, Toronto; EIDF, Seoul; RIDM, Montreal; etc…), received awards at Hot Docs, Toronto with the Jury’s Special Prize and at the EIDF, Seoul with the same prize, at the IDA Awards in Los Angeles with the prize for the Best Photography, at the Torino Film Festival with the Special Prize of the Italian Jury.doc and with the Avanti Prize and at many other festivals. In 2013 “MateriaOscura”won the Corso SalaniPrize for the Best Work in Progress, it was presented at the Berlinale (Forum) and started out on a long journey to various festivals, receiving a number of awards. In 2015 “L’InfinitaFabbrica del Duomo” had its premiere at the Festival of Locarno and was subsequently distributed by Lab80. In 2016 “Spira Mirabilis” had its world premiere in competition at the Venice 73 Festival. It is distributed in Italy by IWonderand abroad by The Match Factory.
Suranga D. Katugampala
After spending his early years in his homeland, Suranga emigrated to Italy with his family where he cultivated his passion for art cinema. He graduated in multimedia ITC and then worked as a teacher for workshops on video-narration. After a number of experimental short films, in 2013 he made a web series Kunatu – Tempeste, a low budgetproject in which he describes the ups and downs of his community in Italy. Loving travel, in 2014 Suranga went back to Sri Lanka from Italy overland. This experience opened up new perspectives for him. In 2015, I soldi di mia madre won the Special Mention in the Extr’A Competition of the Festival of African, Asian and Latin American Cinema inMilan. The project of his first feature film, Per un figlio, in 2014 won the Mutti Prize of the Cineteca of Bologna. In 2016 he made the film which won the Jury’s Special Mention at the Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema in Pesaro.

Anna Bandettini – President
Anna Bandettini holds a degree in theoretical philosophy from the University of Milan. She started to work as a journalist in 1978 for “Repubblica” in Milan. From 1979 to 1981 she worked on the Entertainment desk for the “Corriere di Informazione”. She then went back to “Repubblica” where she was taken on in 1986. Deputy editor in chief of the Entertainment desk, she now writes and is theatre critic for the newspaper of which Mario Calabresi is the editor. She is one of the founders of the association “Giulia”, which brings together women journalists committed to breaking down gender discrimination in publications and in mass media communication.
Sara Del Corona
Sara Del Corona was born in 1971 in Milan where she has always lived. She wanted to graduate in History of the Theatre but then she preferred History of Literary Criticism. She is a journalist and works for Marie Claire as Deputy Editor in Chief for Current Affairs. She has always watched many films and is convinced that a little of what she is and a little of what she knows about the world comes from this, as she has not been able to travel as she should. For just over two years she has curated the cinema section of the magazine with great pleasure. Now and again she interviews actors and directors and occasionally she writes, on marieclaire.it as well, about certain films that inspire her to reflect.
Francesco Rizzo
Milanese, 47 years old, a journalist. He works on the Other Worlds desk of the Gazzetta dello Sport, where he writes about news and entertainment. Struck on the path of cinema when he saw at an unsuitable age “The Wild Bunch” and “Alien”, he conducted cinema clubs for about fifteen years and curates the Facebook page “Treninellanotte”, on the cinema in Milan. He has written about sport for “La Notte”, “Il Giorno”, “Il Giornale”, he has worked as a radio commentator for ice hockey and as an editor for the publisher Sperling&Kupfer. His vices: riding a bicycle in Milan, being a Genoa fan and watching baseball.

The CUMSE Foundation awards a prize to the best short film which promotes the dialogue between cultures. The Prize consists of the acquisition of the distribution rights in Italy and is awarded by a jury CUMSE.
