The FCAAAL brings to Italy the first African films in VR which can be seen in a Virtual Reality Lounge at the Festival Center. The News Dimensions. Virtual Reality Africa 360° project is the result of the collaboration between Steven Markovitz, the enlightened producer of Big World Cinema (to whom we owe the best short films that have been to our festival such as the seriesAfrica Metropolis), fonder of Electric South (South Africa) and the Goethe Film Institute with the support of Big World Cinema, Blue Ice Docs and bertha Foundation. The workshop brought together in Johannesburg six teams of directors and creative from all over Africa (Ivory Coast, Senegal, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa) who wanted to explore the potential of virtual reality at 360°. These teams are currently producing their VR projects. Many African directors and creative are increasingly using the most recent technologies to create their works. The first three films completed will have their European premiere at the festival : the poetic symphony Nairobi Berries, 360° by Ng’endo Mukli (Kenya); Let This Be A Warning, 360° by The Nest Collective (Kenya), which tells the story of a group of Africans who have left the Earth to create a colony on a distant planet and the VR documentary Spirit Robot, 360° by Jonathan Dotse (Ghana), which explores the Chale Wote Street art festival in Accra.
